What is Vaser Liposuction?
Vaser liposuction is a minimally invasive technique that uses ultrasound technology to target and break down fat cells while preserving surrounding tissues. This method allows for precise body sculpting with less trauma, reduced recovery time and highly defined results.
At Harley Clinic, we use advanced vaser liposuction techniques to ensure minimal downtime and optimal results. If you’re wondering how liposuction works or what to expect before and after vaser liposuction, contact us and we can guide you through it.

How Does Vaser Liposuction Work?
All types of liposuction operate on a similar basis, which is to target and remove fat. Vaser liposuction is a type of ultrasonic liposuction. Heat is generated and this breaks up targeted fat cells. The fat cells break up more easily and liquefy before being removed through a needle.
Vaser liposuction is performed in 3 different steps:
Saline solution – to begin with, a saline solution is injected into the treatment area. This helps to minimise blood vessels, reduce bruising, and make it easier to break up the fat.
Ultrasonic – next, your surgeon uses small probes to emit ultrasonic energy waves that break up the fat and target the fatty tissue between your muscle and skin. It’s this process that allows your surgeon to target your fat and contour the treated area at the same time.
Extraction – the final step is to remove the liquified fat. Using a small hollow cannula tube, fat is removed from the body using suction technology. Your surgeon can also create more contouring and definition at this stage.
Types of Vaser Liposuction
Vaser liposuction is unique in the way that it allows you to be very precise while also being extremely gentle. This type of liposuction has a reputation as a great body contouring procedure and can benefit several areas of the body. These include but are not limited to:
Buttocks
During vaser liposuction, the buttocks are sculpted through the removal of excess fat, which creates a more contoured and lifted appearance. This leaves them looking smoother, better defined and often closer to their natural shape.
Hips and Thighs
Fat in the hips and thighs can be stubborn and resistant to weight loss, so vaser liposuction targets these areas to create a slimmer silhouette.
Flanks (Love Handles)
Vaser liposuction can be used on the flanks (or “love handles”) to improve the shape of the waistline. When successful, this can create a better-defined hourglass shape.
Arms
Fat on the arms can often be difficult to get rid of, even with a strict diet and exercise plan. Vaser liposuction removes any unwanted fat and sagging.
Chest
Men who want to reduce stubborn fat in the chest can use Vaser liposuction for a more masculine, defined appearance. If you have recently had gynaecomastia surgery, it can also help improve the contours of the chest.
Chin and Neck
Fat under the chin and along the neck can often be a major source of embarrassment, so vaser liposuction defines the jaw and smoothens the neckline. This improves the facial contours and reduces the double chin.
Abdomen
Vaser liposuction removes the excess fat on the abdomen, flattening it out and sculpting it through the targeting of stubborn fat deposits. This is ideal for those who want a toned stomach. However, if you have excess tummy skin, a tummy tuck is more suitable.
5 Things You Need to Know if You’re Considering Vaser Liposuction
If you’re considering Vaser liposuction, here are five things you should know.
1. Minimally-Invasive Procedure
Vaser liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure, and it’s suitable for almost all areas of the body. If you want to avoid lengthy surgery and recovery time while benefiting from liposuction, vaser lipo is a great option. It’s much more gentle on the skin than traditional liposuction. It’s beneficial for toning up areas of the body that don’t react to diet and exercise.
2. Weight-Loss Treatment
Liposuction is not a weight-loss treatment. If you want to lose weight, you need to evaluate your diet and exercise routine. Instead, vaser liposuction is a body contouring tool. The idea is that vaser liposuction works on improving stubborn areas of fat that remain visible even after weight loss. As with all surgeries, you need to be at a steady and healthy weight to move forward with vaser liposuction. Patients need to be pretty close to their ideal weight, for example within 10-30% of it.
3. Fat Targeting
Vaser liposuction is precise and can selectively target fat cells. Nearby structures such as nerves and blood vessels are much less likely to be damaged.
4. Short Recovery
Another major advantage of this type of liposuction is the recovery time. Depending on the extent of your procedure, you may be able to return to work in as little as 2-3 days.
5. Safe and Effective
Vaser liposuction is a proven safe and effective procedure that causes minimal side effects. However, as with all procedures, there are potential risks and side effects like:
- Bruising and bleeding
- Infection
- Swelling and pain
- Skin irregularities

Vaser Liposuction FAQs
What is the difference between traditional liposuction and vaser liposuction?
Both liposuction techniques draw fat out of the body using suction. The difference comes with how each technique breaks up the fat, how the recovery goes, and the results.
Vaser Liposuction | Traditional Liposuction |
Uses ultrasound to break up and liquefy fat | Uses cannulas in a back and forth motion to break up the fat |
Results in less swelling and bruising | Can result in more swelling and bruising |
Less invasive | More invasive |
Shorter recovery time | Longer recovery time |
Better skin tightening and more defined contours | Less effective skin tightening and less defined contours |
The best option for you really depends on your individual case, how much fat you’re looking to remove, and the result you want to achieve.
How long does it take to recover from vaser liposuction?
Following your procedure, you may have some bruising and swelling in the treated area. As the swelling continues to subside, you will begin to see the final result. You can expect to be back at work within 2-3 days of your procedure. You can return to most activities in 2 weeks. You will need to wear a support garment for about 4 weeks.
Does vaser liposuction hurt?
Either general or local anaesthetic is used during the procedure so that you won’t feel any pain. Most patients experience some discomfort and soreness after the procedure. This usually subsides in about 2 weeks.
Is there scarring after the procedure?
The incisions used in vaser liposuction are 3-4mm, so scarring is minimal after the procedure, and fades over time.
When will you see the final result?
Some patients can see results immediately, but most start to see improvements in 6-8 weeks. It can take up to 6 months to see the final result from the procedure.
Are the results of vaser liposuction permanent?
The results are permanent, but significant weight gain will be noticeable and affect your results.
How much fat can you remove with vaser liposuction?
Normally, you would not remove more than 3-5 litres (4-5%) of your body fat in one procedure. The amount of fat you can remove varies from patient to patient.
