What is a Mid Facelift?

facelift is a perfect opportunity to turn back the clock. However, deciding to get a facelift is a decision that takes time. A mid facelift is a cosmetic procedure to combat the signs of ageing, especially in the middle part of the face.

What is a Mid Facelift?

The ageing process can cause the cheeks below the lower eyelids to droop and the lower lids to lose strength and sag. At other times, deep grooves may develop between the cheeks and the lower eyelids. This groove is referred to as a tear trough. The cheeks may also sag such that a fold forms between the nose and the corners of the mouth.

mid facelift or cheek lift is a cosmetic procedure that helps tighten the skin from the upper lip to the eye area to give you a more youthful appearance. The procedure helps tighten saggy cheeks and can also smooth laughter lines.

What it doesn’t do is target the forehead or chin area like a full facelift. It is excellent for people who want a more youthful-looking appearance, brighter eyes, and prominent-looking cheekbones and those who don’t want any work done on their forehead or jawline.

Why Consider a Mid Facelift?

Age and the gravitation effects can cause the cheekbone tissues and those below the eyelids to lose volume and sag. This makes the cheeks appear flatter, nasal folds deepen, and the lower eyelids look hollower. All these changes lead to an older and more tired look.

A mid facelift addresses these changes making it a popular cosmetic procedure for people who want to address the signs of ageing. A traditional facelift usually focuses on the lower section of the face and typically the neck, but cannot address the upper cheek and lower eyelid areas. A mid facelift can help create better facial symmetry.

It’s important to know that a mid facelift doesn’t address all lower eyelid problems. For instance, the procedure will not improve crow’s feet, wrinkles or fine lines in the midface area. If you have such concerns, consider filler injections or eyelid surgery

What Happens During a Mid Facelift Procedure?

The procedure is done under general anaesthetic and usually takes 60-90 minutes or more when combined with other procedures like a neck lift. The surgeon makes two small incisions by the hairline and then tightens the muscles.

During the procedure, your surgeon will manipulate and lift the fat pads under the skin to help smooth out creases, remove excess sagging skin, lift and tighten the skin and plump the areas around your eyes. A mid facelift typically targets the areas between the upper corners of the mouth to the corners of your eyes. The most noticeable differences will be in your cheek area, where the skin will appear tighter.

What is Mid Facelift Recovery Like?

The surgical procedure is conducted on an outpatient basis, so you get to go home the same day. After the procedure, your face will be bruised and swollen. Your doctor will also wrap it in a garment which they will advise you to wear for about a week.

The initial recovery period is up to 2 weeks. You will then continue to recover over the next few months. Full recovery may take several months, but most people see full results in 2 to 3 months. Your plastic surgeon will request that you refrain from strenuous physical activities for 3 weeks following the surgery.

The results from a mid facelift can last for 10-15 years. However, ageing will affect how long the effects last. Likewise, your age at the time of the procedure will determine how long the results last.
