How Does the Coronavirus Test Work?
We offer a state-of-the-art COVID-19 antigen test that will provide results in 15 minutes whilst you wait at the clinic. The test takes a nasopharyngeal swab. This means that a swab is inserted into the patient’s nose to reach the nasopharynx (the upper part of the throat behind the nose). The swab is then gently rotated to absorb a sample from this area and then tested.
The test uses a lateral flow immunoassay device. It’s a simple diagnostic tool that can detect the presence or absence of specific antigens. In this case, it’s looking for COVID-19 antigens. Your sample is mixed with a buffer solution to test for COVID-19 antigens. It’s a quick yet accurate way of testing for coronavirus.
In addition to our clinic coronavirus test, we can also send the testing kit to your home for home testing. Again, this only takes 15 minutes to get your results. With 96.4% sensitivity and 99.2% specificity, you can rest assured that results are fast, reliable, and accurate. The home coronavirus testing kit comes with full instructions and buffers. Does the test detect the new variant of Coronavirus?
Yes it does. The test detects the nucleocapid protein from SARS-CoV2. The mutations of the new variant are on the Spike protein. So the test will detect it still.
